Plates are the heart in all couplings and brakes. Inner plates – with internal keyways are mated with outer plates which have the keys on the outer diameter. Typically, the inner plates are made in steel or cast iron and the outer plates are covered with friction materials.
The choice of the friction material depends on the application (dry/wet), etc.
